In an effort to facilitate easier access to regular sporting activities, Clevedon School Sports Centre and Clevedon Athletics club set about investigating the feasibility of staging races in the local area.
It hit us pretty much straight away what a great resource sits literally on our doorstep. Court Woods is a fantastic resource that the public are very fortunate to have access to. The woods belong to the Elton family of Clevedon, and is managed by the Clevedon Court estate, who generously allow access to the general public. It is with their consent and support that the races take place.
Local benefits of the races...
There are some not so obvious benefits to these races. The races will be organised in part by students of Clevedon School. Event management features heavily on the curriculum of various sport education courses run at the school. The opportunity for students to be involved in such a large scale event is great.
Amongst others students will learn about planning and logistics, health and safety, event organisation, and marketing. We are looking to encourage the students to inovate and develop the series and carry it forward.
Why take part...
The organisations involved in this project are all not for profit. This allows for the money raised to be used solely for the development of facilities and the course.
Our ambition is for the race series to take place annually and when possible expand the series to cover different disciplines and activities. The more support we get the quicker this can happen and the better the series and project can become.
